19 July 2014 by Gary

July 2014 has been a monumental month for Yorkshire. Awareness for the county has been transformed with the successful hosting of the Tour de France providing a two day advertisement. Around the world Brand Yorkshire has received millions and millions of pounds worth of advertising. A global audience has seen and read about a triumph; beautiful Yorkshire, the landscape and landmarks showing off hidden Yorkshire gems. Only enhanced by the 5 million people who lined the streets to watch the two day spectacle that was the Grand Depart.
Whilst some moaned about road closures and diversions leading up to the event, others have recognised the positive return on investment for the county. Not only immediate, but in future heightened awareness will hopefully bear fruit with an increase in international tourists. Doubters may question whether this awareness will lead to a growth in international trade. Will visitors from abroad still flock to the south of the country and ignore the North? It remains to be seen.
Whatever happens, as a Lancastrian I’m proud to say that Yorkshire did a grand job.
